Rainwater runs off traditional asphalt and concrete. But water can drain into the surface of a parking lot paved with this porous asphalt, then collect in an underground basin where it?s filtered before it seeps into the ground. The American Society of Civil Engineers and the National Asphalt Pavement Association are promoting the paving technique as a means of reducing runoff into sewer systems and of cutting the need for pipes and drainage infrastructure.
